Cruisin' n Ridin'

Took today off from work to go ride and enjoy myself a bit. The weather was great and I probably rode for over 6 hours down to Portland, around St. Helens, and back. The fresh air was nice, and I stopped to take a few pictures of the mountains while I was out. After the first 60 miles, I noticed my Softail Custom (Harley) wasn’t driving quite right, and it turned out to be a lose chain drive. I had some tools with me in the bags, but none that could really effectively tighten the chain without a lot of work. Luckily it was still OK to ride, and I just took it easy the rest of the way since the chain wasn’t coming off or anything. I felt a little guilty about missing my exercise routine for lunch, but I had a great time and I made sure not to stop at any stores for snacks, so I feel justified in making the trip. I am hoping to take a motorcycle trip later this spring and head up to Alaska for a few days. I would be a good ten day excursion, but I could use the break from work and time away from the house. It seems like all I’ve been doing the last few weeks is weight loss and work. I lost 2 pounds since my last blog, so I’m still doing good.

Fat is done...

I’ve been coming in pretty strong with this weight loss the last few days. I have really really been enjoying the aerobic tapes I got. I guess they were some crazy fad back in the 90s, but I never really paid much attention to them. That goes to show what happens when you don’t listen to these health nuts. You end up like me! But on a more serious note, I really have been enjoying the healthier feeling of staying active and getting moving. I’ve lost another 3-4 pounds over the last few days, but I think it is starting to slow up a little. I’m currently at about 211 pounds, so I have about another 35 to go if I want to look good like I used to. But either way, it’s just nice to know that there’s actually a diet out there that works and that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

I went into the weight loss clinic again, too. The appointment was pretty short, which was good since I had to get back to manage a few transactions! I like how they are always willing to work with your schedule, and it really helps when you are booked up for the day. They were pretty impressed with the weight loss, it seemed. Maybe it’s just me (which is probably is), but I think I’ve done pretty well on the diet so far. More soon guys…

Fat boot camp...

That’s right, I said it… I’m not only working hard on the hcg diet part of this whole weight loss thing, I am also working hard to make sure that the weight will stay off. I mentioned that I was going to “work out” in between my eBay working schedule. It’s a bit tricky, since some of my jobs require that I am monitoring an auction or bid when they end, but I’ve been timing them just right so I have two different dead spots throughout the day besides the morning. I was originally going to do some aerobic stuff over lunch, but I think I was getting a bit ahead of myself, and the strenuous workout really isn’t going so hot with the meal, so I bumped it back to the morning and now I take a midday walk before going back to work. In the evenings, I either hit balls on my lawn or go to the batting cage for baseball. I used to play in high school a lot, but I’ve lost my skill for the game and would probably look better at T-ball now. I’m not going to let that discourage me though. I also finally dropped to losing under a pound a day, so only 6 pounds for a week, but that’s okay with me as long as I am losing close to a pound a day. Chill Guys!

Don't get mad, get fit!

Had a great workout today. I spent 35 minutes on these martial arts/aerobic videos, walked for an hour, and then sat down to a healthy dinner that was exactly to the diet’s specifications. I weighed myself afterwards, and I had lost 4 pounds. Wow! And after a great last couple weeks, it is surprising to see such great weight loss still happening. Heck, it’s always great to see a good return on investment, but that’s just my business mind coming through.

Speaking of business, that’s one of the hardest things about this diet… I realize that if I don’t continue to be active, I will be in the same situation again within a short amount of time. Sitting in the computer is a great work-from-home job, but it doesn’t involve much getting up and running around. After my goal weight is once again attained, I am definitely going to aspire to healthier living habits! I haven’t given this a whole lot of thought, but the two biggest things I could do to improve my lifestyle is take away the munching foods from my office and make a resolution to do something active after every 3-4 hours working. Starting on Monday I plan to walk in the morning and eat breakfast, work for four hours, break for lunch and do half an hour of tie bo, work till dinner, then hit some balls at the range. I think this will work out well. Will debrief on Thursday. :D

Too much weight lifting!

Checked in at the weight loss clinic today. The chewing gum is still working, so I’m not complaining there. The one thing that did hit me (for the second time this week) was a hunger craving. It wasn’t very much, and as long as I am not exercising really hard I don’t seem to have a problem anyway. The difficult days are when I try to walk or ride my motorcycle for a long time without eating anything. The diet is pretty strict, so I just have to make sure I am sticking to it no matter what.

As far as the aerobics class I mention go, I decided not to do it until maybe later in the year, but I am doing some exercise/martial art videos called Tie Bo or Tae Bow (something like that). They really give quite a fantastic workout and really help you feel good afterwards. I reason that doing an exercise such as this 2-3 times per week will really help me get in shape, and that’s pretty important to me once I have lost all this weight. I also thought about weight lifting classes, but the way I see it, I’ve been lifting too much weight around already. Ha! I’ll keep feeding the updates, but I think this will be the best solution to my exercise problems. I lost 6 pounds since my last post here, so I must be doing something good.

Chewing the gum, not fat

Ha! I bought some chewing gum for people coming off smoking. It helps a bit, but I was worried initially that it would affect my weight loss. It doesn’t seem to be doing so yet, but I might talk to one of the physicians at the clinic and see if there could be a complication with that. At any rate, the smoking deal isn’t so bad now, so if I can keep this up I should be done with smoking permanently. Here’s the scoop on some other random stuff:
• I got a new bike today. I’ve been looking at another toy for a while, and I figured a Honda Shadow would be a sweet ride. They run so smooth, and it was a great purchase.
• I lost 6 pounds since my last post, which is very encouraging.
• I’m going into the weight loss clinic again next week for another check-in. I’ll ask them for any advice about the smoking then, too.
• I’m thinking of joining a weight training and aerobics class. The aerobics are actually pretty interesting, and they combine some jogging, high weight reps, and other stamina building workouts. It might really help keep up the weight loss, and would be worth it if that’s true.
And that’s pretty much it. I’ll write again next week, probably. Keep it cool everyone…
